Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts are preparing to take the field for Sunday’s NFC Title Game at 3 p.m. ET in Philadelphia, but what many people don’t realize is that the two gunslingers have already faced off in college.

The game, which took place on November 9, 2019, pitted Brock’s Iowa State Cyclones against Hurts’ Oklahoma Sooners, and it ended with incredible stat totals for both quarterbacks, especially the 49ers rookie and former Cyclones star.

Hurts and the heavily-favored, ninth ranked Sooners jumped out to a 42-21 lead in the third quarter, but Purdy and Iowa State weren’t done yet.

Purdy rallied the troops back to the brink of a tie game, throwing a potential game-winning touchdown pass with 24 seconds left in the game.

The Cyclones decided to go for two and the win, but Purdy threw an interception, ending their upset bid.

When the smoke settled, the stats between the signal callers were as follows:

Hurts also ran for 68 yards on 22 carries, while Purdy ran for 55 yards on 15 carries.

With the NFC Championship game looming and a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, the unlikely rivals are preparing to run it back for a second time.

Hurts had the following to say about the matchup according to DelawareOnline.com.

“It was a good game, glad we won,” Hurts said. “I have a lot of respect for him. He’s always been a really good player, has a lot of moxie.

“He makes plays. And he’s been doing that since college, so there’s no surprise when he was given this opportunity, to see the success he’s having now.”

The hometown favorite Eagles are favored by about a field goal heading into Sunday’s game depending on what sportsbook you peek at, and there are indications it could be a shootout in line with the aforementioned OU vs. ISU game.
