Amon-Ra St. Brown has quietly become one of the most efficient and effective wide receivers in the National Football League, despite playing for an offense that has still yet to find its sea legs, so to speak, under quarterback Jared Goff and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Johnson was the forgotten man during the Lions’ appearance on the wildly popular HBO reality show ‘Hard Knocks’ this season, a show that made the Lions America’s Unofficial Favorite Team heading into the 2022-2023 season.

Last season, the fourth-round pick out of USC turned into a surprisingly and quietly efficient season for the Detroit Lions.

So much so in fact that he managed to catch 90 passes without dropping a single ball, all for a team that finished 3-13 on the season and didn’t exactly put the fear of God in opposing defenses when the offense took the field.

ESPN analyst and NFL insider Field Yates had the following to say about St. Brown heading into this season, according to his Twitter account.

Now that the 2022 season is underway, St. Brown is already making a run at another impressive streak, all while mostly evading attention from the national NFL pundits.

He caught eight balls for 64 yards and a touchdown in week one against a Philadelphia Eagles team that is expected to contend for the NFC Championship, and he’s just getting started in many ways.

According to the Detroit-based Woodward Sports Network, St. Brown has now caught eight-plus passes in seven straight games, which ties for the third-longest such streak in NFL history.

On Thursday, CBS Sports shared the following list of players who have accomplished the same feat.

St. Brown is tied with one of the best receiving tight ends in history, as well as former Lion Anquan Boldin in his pursuit of an impressive feat.

With one more game of eight-plus receptions, he will tie current New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers standout Antonio Brown with eight games in a row.

Most games in a row with 8-plus  receptions in NFL history

  1. Michael Thomas (Saints) – 8 (2019)
  2. Antonio Brown (Steelers) – 8 (2014)
  3. Amon-Ra St. Brown (Lions) – 7 (2021-2022)*
  4. Travis Kelce (Chiefs) – 7 (2020)
  5. Anquan Boldin (Cardinals) – 7 (2005)

*St. Brown’s streak is currently active.

St. Brown is not the type of player who will wow you with long catches and highlight reel breakaway speed.

As a matter-of-fact, his career long reception is just 37 yards so far over the course of his young NFL career.

That being said, he has the makings of something special as a dependable, productive and consistent possession receiver who can be counted on to find the open spots in zone defenses and move the chains —something the team has mostly lacked since the days of Brett Perriman, Johnnie Morton and several others.

Enjoy the show while you can, folks, because St. Brown has what it takes to remain a dependable player for years to come in the Honolulu Blue and Silver.
